Fibromyalgia Harrisburg Veterinarian

Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread body pain that does not stem from any known illness, ailment or injury. Suffers typically experience chronic pain, exhaustion and stiffness in the joints. It impacts daily living and quality of life. It is estimated that as many as 400 million people suffer from fibromyalgia or about 6 percent of the entire world population, and it tends to affect women more than men.

Suspected Causes and Symptoms of Fibromyalgia

It is believed that the central nervous system becomes hyper sensitive in individuals that have the disease, which means the nerves of the body produce more pain signals. The exact reasons are unknown and different individuals experience slightly different symptoms, which slows down the diagnosis process.

Diagnosing fibromyalgia involves eliminating other diseases and conditions first and testing various pain points on the body for excessive sensitivity. The individual must also have had the pain for at least three months.

Symptoms of fibromyalgia include insomnia, wide spread moderate to severe body pain, pain in the joints, exhaustion, morning stiffness, difficulty concentrating and thinking and stomach ailments. Individuals with fibromyalgia may also have IBS, depression, anxiety, neuropathy, irritable bladder and difficulty exercising due to increased pain and muscle soreness.

Some suspected causes of the disease include Lyme disease, HIV, other bacterial or viral infections that attack the nervous system and injuries or high stress. In fact, about half of the individuals that current have Fibromyalgia report illnesses, injuries and stress prior to the onset of symptoms.

Chiropractic Treatment for Fibromyalgia for Harrisburg, Hershey, Progress, Colonial Park, Lower Paxton, and Grantville, PA

Chiropractic treatment is a viable option for fibromyalgia suffers. It is a holistic approach to healing the entire body. Chiropractic care includes a variety of treatment options, including massage therapy, chiropractic adjustments and wellness care.

Massage therapy helps reduce widespread muscle and soft tissue pain and makes chiropractic adjustments more effective. It works because tight spots in the muscles and strained and stressed ligaments and soft tissues are manipulated until they become loose. Massage therapy also gives the individual time to relax and unwind, and successive massages tend to yield better benefits.

Chiropractic adjustments ensure that the skeletal system is properly aligned. When the vertebrae of the back and extremity joints are properly aligned, the chance for nerve disruption is reduced and muscle and soft tissue pain around the misaligned joints is reduced. It also helps promote proper movement of the joints, muscles and back and can help reduce the risk of accidental injuries.

Wellness care involves evaluation the individual’s entire lifestyle from food and exercise to stressors and ways to reduce stress. Then, lifestyle adjustments are recommended to correct any deficiencies.

When all of these treatments are combined to treat fibromyalgia, suffers experience a dramatic reduction in pain, and their range of motion is increased.
