Chiropractic Pain Relief for Plantar Fasciitis
At Skocik Chiropractic in Harrisburg, we have pain relief for plantar fasciitis. Getting over plantar fasciitis takes time and patience. But, we have treatments that will give you lasting pain relief.
What can chiropractic treatment do for plantar fasciitis that massage and exercises can't?
The plantar fascia is a band of thick tissue that connects your heel to your toes. The calcaneus is the largest bone in your foot. The "tuberosity" of that bone is the half that is closest to your heel. The medial process is the part of the bone that attaches to the muscles at the back of your foot. When you have plantar fasciitis, the connection between the bone and the muscles and the connective tissue that stretches down the length of your foot has worn out.
Plantar fasciitis isn't really "heel spurs." It just feels that way. We call the problem a "spur" because people have it experience stabbing pain with their first few steps every morning. When they get up and get moving, the pain subsides, but if they sit down for a while and get up again, the pain starts all over.
Women are more likely to suffer plantar fasciitis than men. About a third of the time, the condition occurs in both feet, not just one. If you go to a conventional doctor with plantar fasciitis, you will be told there's nothing that really can be done other than surgery, but 80 percent of cases go away on their own in about a year. Your medical doctor might tell you to get a foot massage and to do some stretching exercises and take Ibuprofen or Tylenol. Or the doctor might take you down a drug approach with Botox injections, nitroglycerin patches, and steroid injections. There is also surgery.
You don't want the side effects of drugs and the downtime of surgery. Chiropractic care can do a lot more, including:
- Showing you a different way to walk (and later run) that avoids causing pain.
- Advice on the shoes you need to avoid this problem, and safe ways to walk and run barefoot.
- Splints and taping in the earlier stages of your recovery.
- Extracorporeal shockwave therapy to accelerate healing, improve circulation, and ease the pain.
